You: A Book Review

When I saw the cover of the book and I knew I had to do it. Then I got a little carried away. Other than the neck showing a little thick, I think I did a pretty good job.

You, by Caroline Kepnes

I wanted a book that would bet a little gritty and let’s just say I found it! I started to watch the show on Netflix and really got hooked. Four episodes into the show someone tells me it’s a book! I immediately search for it, low and beyond there are actually two books. Yippee!!

The main character, Joe is entertaining, smart, and well thought out. Yes, of course, he does stupid things, but I think the author does a good job telling us why he’s doing it. Joe is a sick man, you can tell this just by looking at the cover, right? His thought patterns are unique and believable for someone so twisted. By reading from his POV we get a deep look inside his psyche and it’s a wild ride.

Here is what I really liked, besides everything I’ve already mentioned. There are some scenes where you are on the edge of your seat. I like the suspense. There are some delicious sex scenes that are sure to get you excited. The main character is crazy but believable, and even though I know he’s evil I find myself rooting for him. I even caught myself thinking that I’m rooting for the wrong person, but I couldn’t help it.

The supporting characters are also well done. I have a love-hate relationship with Beck, his lady interest. She’s shallow and annoying, but her growth in the book is more interesting than Joe’s. We really get to know her and see what makes her tick. But as she grows I wonder why Joe is still interested in her. My only qualm with the book is that. But, I’m not Joe, and I guess the heart wants what the heart wants.

This is a fun read. I can’t wait to read the next one.
